Ezekiel's Commission and the Eating of the Scroll

2
Chapter 2
1 And he said to me, "Son of Adam, stand on your feet, and I will speak with you." 2 And a spirit entered me as he spoke to me, and it set me on my feet, and I heard the one speaking to me. 3 And he said to me, son of Adam, I am sending you to the sons of Israel, to the nations, the rebels who rebelled against me—they and their fathers transgressed against me until this very day. 4 And the sons are stiff of face and strong of heart. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, Thus says Lord GOD. 5 And they—if they hear or if they cease—for they are a house of rebellion, and they will know that a prophet was in their midst. 6 And you, son of man, do not fear them or their words. Do not fear, for they are rebels and mockers against you, and you dwell among scorpions. Do not fear their words or be shattered by their faces, for they are a house of rebellion. 7 And you shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or whether they cease, for they are rebellion. 8 And you, son of man, hear what I am speaking to you. Do not be rebellious like the house of rebellion. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving to you. 9 And I saw, and behold—a hand was sent to me, and behold—in it a scroll of a book. 10 And he spread it out before me. It was written on the front and back, and written on it were lamentations and mourning and woe.

Chapter 3
1 And he said to me, "Son of Adam, what you find, eat—eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel." 2 And I opened my mouth, and he made me eat this scroll. 3 And he said to me, "Son of Adam, eat this scroll in your belly and fill your bowels with it, the one that I am giving to you." And I ate it, and it was in my mouth like honey for sweetness. 4 And he said to me, "Son of Adam, go to the house of Israel and speak with my words to them." 5 For you are not sent to a people deep of lip and heavy of tongue, to the house of Israel. 6 Not to many peoples deep of lip and heavy of tongue, whose words you will not hear. If not to them I have sent you, they will hear you. 7 And the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me; for all the house of Israel are stiff of forehead and hard of heart—they. 8 Behold, I have made your face strong to match their faces, and your forehead strong to match their foreheads. 9 Like a strong adamant from Tyre I have made your forehead. You shall not fear them, and you shall not be dismayed at their faces, for they are a house of rebellion. 10 And he said to me, "Son of Adam, all the words that I will speak to you—take them into your heart and into your ears: hear." 11 And go, enter to the exile, to the sons of your people, and speak to them and say to them, Thus says Lord GOD: whether they listen or whether they cease. 12 A spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great rumbling: "Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place." 13 And the sound of the wings of the living beings rubbing one against the other, and the sound of the wheels alongside them, and the sound of a great rumbling. 14 A spirit lifted me and took me, and I went bitter in the heat of my spirit, and the hand of the LORD was strong upon me. 15 And I came to the exiles at Tel Aviv, who were sitting by the river Chebar. And I sat where they were sitting. And I sat there seven days stunned in their midst.
